Disputing Errors

If you've ordered a copy of your credit report and found the report contains errors or information that is outdated or doesn't belong to you, contact my office on how to proceed, or send a dispute letter to the Credit Reporting Agency(CRA), on your own. A separate form should have been sent with your report, for disputing errors or mistakes. A unique number is on this form, specifically used for tracking and follow up by the CRA.

If you do not have the form, you can use a copy of the letter below. Handwrite or type the letter and send it to the CRA by certified mail along with any supporting evidence, if you have it.  Keep a copy of each letter you send. In compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the CRA's have 30 days to look into your complaint and act on it, and must show in your report that an item is being disputed or is under investigation.  They can decline your request only if they decide that it is frivolous, and the agency must notify you of this decision.  The agency must also notify you within five days of completing the investigation and must include a copy of your credit report if it has been revised.  If the agency does fix the error, order another report in a few months to make sure the error stays fixed.
